Week in Review

Week in Review on gillaspytraining.com:

Been a rough couple of weeks, these tough weeks came with sickness on top of everything else that was going on. I will miss my grandpa, but I know he is in a better place. One cool thing about life is you get to continue to represent loved ones after they pass, and I will do everything I can do to do that in a positive way.

This is an exercise that really makes zero sense to me. People have a lot of difficulty getting into the right positions with a deadlift from the floor, let alone standing on an elevated surface putting yourself further away from the bar. Ive yet to see a person that the low back wouldn’t become the prime mover with this one.

Baseball players usually gain external rotation and lose internal rotation at the shoulder. Basketball players usually lose some ankle mobility. These are just a couple examples of adaptions that can happen during a long season and a good strength and conditioning program can address. Also, over the course of a long season performance wants to dip. Ive felt this dip in performance in season before and I’m sure other high level athletes would tell you the same. A good off-season allows you to build performance back up to at least baseline. I can’t imagine playing a sport year round, but it happens.

Best article I read this week: Lou Schuler on how years of bad training choices might eventually catch up to you. https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a38400411/training-mistakes-knee-injuries/?fbclid=IwAR1b2cT_5Bbe66J5kQyR6RfdvgXsK-O78f6C0Xv_KlPAcOyCVVXd3bGwsio

Have a great week!
