Week in Review

Week in Review on gillaspytraining.com:

Translating Toning

Tone is muscle. If you want to look more tone you can build muscle and or lose fat. But to think you’re going to do some special toning workout like you see all over the internet is kind of silly.

Distance Running for Team Sports?

If you want to get in shape, regardless of the sport, just go out and run a mile or two. That has been the popular way of thinking for a long time, but to improve speed qualities, you need to go fast. Sometimes the training needs to look more like the sport. Will throwing in some long runs in there from time to time make you slower? Probably not, but where people really get in trouble is never going fast.

Subtle Arm Training Strategies

I’m not a direct arm training hater, but what I will say is it is extremely overcooked most of the time and there is a hierarchy. I’ll also say that since I’ve had a gym, I have to remind myself more and more not to hate it because stuff like that is all you ever see. It’s usually not the exercises fault, but rather bad application. Anyway, periodically use these tweaks to get a little more arms involved in the movements. If you think you need some more direct arm work, add a little more toward the end of the workout. You know, programming.
